Student Organizations and Activities
The Nebraska Indian Community College promotes student growth and development through participation in academic activites and cocurricular events. All enrolled students are encouraged to participate. Below is a list of some of the current student activities offered at NICC:
American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC)
NICC is a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. Students may attend the annual spring AIHEC conference and participate in friendly competitions with other Tribal College students. Competitions and activities differ each year and some examples may include: archery, textiles, poetry slam, handgame, knowledge bowl, basketball tournament, fashion show, and more. American Indian Business Leaders (AIBL)
NICC is a collaborating institution with AIBL, which focuses on cultivating business and leadership skills for tribal college students. This organization, while not limited strictly to Business majors, is a valuable tool for promoting leadership and enhancing professionalism. NICC Student Showcase Presentations
Each semester NICC Students are able to share their class projects with the larger community. This optional activity is a highlight for many as it allows students to showcase their creative projects, research activities, writitng assigments, service learning projects, internships, presentations, and more. This virtual event is held on Zoom each semester and is open to the larger NICC community. NICC Extension and Co-curricular Events
NICC hosts routine events through a variety of offices and programs. A few that are recurring relate to extension programs, with unique opportunities in Macy and Santee areas, as well as varying opportunities in the South Sioux City area and online. Events vary each month, and include opportunties related to community and cultural connections through workshops, hands-on trainings, and also guest speakers. Sessions are held frequently, and more information can be found from connecting with NICC's Extension Team or following NICC Events.
