Welcome from Academics
I greet you with a kind heart.
Waxe izhazhe wiwita-the Kristine Sudbeck. Wasisige onthada.
My name is Kristine Sudbeck. Others call me Wasisige.
Nibthaska tapuska monshiade khe nutahonga bthin.
I serve as the Dean of Academic Affairs at NICC.
I first came to NICC as a student during 2014, while studying Omaha language I and II with Alice Saunsoci inthinge. I began working at NICC as a Research and Development Advisor/Faculty Member in the summer of 2016, while also continuing to study Omaha language III and IV with Hawatay (Winona) Caramony inthinge. As a waxe w’au (non-native woman), the Omaha language is not my own ancestral language. It is a humbling experience, and I truly believe that there is so much that one can learn through the language. I recognize that I still have much more to learn from elders, community members, our own students, and one another.
We are excited to have you join us at NICC on your academic journey, with an opportunity for lifelong learning experiences that can provide a sense of belonging, healing, and deeper understanding for our students.
Thathi-the udon. It is good that you are here. Welcome!
Kristine Sudbeck, PhD
Dean of Academic Affairs
