This course will compare and contrast the Native American and non-Native cultural perspectives regarding abnormal psychology. Both Native American and non-Native concepts of traditional and contemporary views and issues will be explored. The rationale for this course is to facilitate student awareness into the following concepts: myths of mental illness, identification of “abnormal behavior” and other relevant terminology, etiology, diagnosis, symptomatology, treatment strategies, and therapies regarding abnormal psychology.
