Student Services

Nebraska Indian Community College provides services for meeting the various academic and non-academic needs of its diverse student body. NICC coordinates services for all enrolled students at no additional cost to the student. For additional information, please contact your assigned advisor.

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND COUNSELING

The Student Support Services Students Taking Active Responsibility (STAR) Program assists with academic advising and counseling. Students will find professional assistance in establishing academic goals and course planning. The STAR Program maintains an open door policy, once a student is admitted to the program.

COLLEGE AND CAREER PLANNING

The STAR Program provides assistance to student participants in exploring career options and developing career goals. This component is designed to assist students in identifying career and educational objectives that closely match their career interests, academic abilities, personal values and experiences. The placement-testing component is required for all students to gain full admission to the STAR Program. Career assessment and planning is an optional component of this program. Students who elect to participate in this program receive one-on-one career advising, workshops, and seminars in career exploration, resume writing, interviewing skills, job placement, and/or college transfer assistance, academic advising, personal counseling, cultural enrichment activities, tutoring, and the ability to use the STAR Learning Centers set up on each campus site. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the STAR program services.

STUDENT WELCOME AND ORIENTATION TO CAMPUS LIFE

Prior to the fall and spring semesters, NICC staff conducts new student orientation programs at each campus. These programs are designed to ease the transition into the new experience of higher education. Student orientation provides the opportunity for students to interact with other students, as well as to become familiar with NICC programs, services, and staff.
